Full-Service Interior Design & Styling, Custom Millwork Design
Gem and Clay was brought in to re-imagine what was the traditional dining room off of the foyer in the front of the house. For this growing family, the room was not used for dining, so we set out to re-imagine this space as a reading room for comfortable lounging and a space sophisticated enough to welcome guests, but comfortable enough to enjoy games with the family or curling up with a book. Also part of our scope was to find more suitable lighting for the great room and modify the mudroom built-ins to conceal the many items that a mudroom is required to house.
We brought statement-making charm to the reading room by wallpapering the ceiling and designing one-of-a-kind alder library shelving to be built, by Sawhorse Woodworks, into two of the four walls of the room. By carefully coordinating new paint colors, custom window treatments, furnishings and decor, we breathed new life into the room and gave it purpose. For the mudroom, we designed doors for the existing cabinetry, along with custom bins on casters to look like drawers. These bins have dividers for smart show storage, and the hardware was swapped out to tie this area into the adjacent kitchen hardware and overall modern-farmhouse feel.
